Prayer Ministry
“In true prayer we take with us words of Truth…an affirmation, and turn our attention within to the very center of our being… We affirm these words of Truth and meditate on them, then get very still and wait in the silence for God to make them real to us.” ~ Charles Fillmore Prayer is the heart of Unity, and is the foundation of the Unity movement. In the late 1880s, Unity’s co-founder Myrtle Fillmore’s life was transformed when she heard and believed the idea, “I am a child of God, and therefore I do not inherit sickness.” Speaking life-affirming words to her tuberculosis-ravaged body, she went on to live a life of health and wholeness. |
News of Myrtle's prayer experience spread, and people near and far began sending their prayer requests to her. In 1890 Myrtle and her husband Charles began a prayer ministry. Daily they held in mind and heart the prayer requests of everyone who contacted them. That was more than 120 years ago—the beginning of Silent Unity. In keeping with that powerful history and tradition, it is the intention of our prayer ministry to raise our vision to the awareness that we are all one with God and to lovingly hold all for whom we pray in that consciousness. It is our privilege to pray with and for you. |
Our Prayer Chaplains
Our prayer chaplains have received extensive training in holding sacred space for our community, and praying with us in times of need, and in times of gratitude and celebration. They pray over your prayer requests, hold space for us during our Sunday services, and are available after every service for one-on-one prayer. It is their privilege to support you, and hold all requests in confidence. They also co-create the World Day of Prayer service every September, providing 24 hours of continuous prayer and a contemplative service to conclude that powerful time.
Prayer Support
Prayer Requests: You can email a prayer request directly to our Prayer Chaplains at [email protected]. Or you can place your prayer requests in the church box on the prayer table at the back of the Sanctuary. Forms are available on the table and upstairs in the Prayer Room. Prayer requests are held in prayer by our prayer ministry team and sent to Silent Unity, where they are held in prayer for 30 days. You can also request prayer from Silent Unity on their Prayer Request page: https://www.unity.org/prayer/request-prayer. (For immediate prayer needs, please email Rev. Stephanie at [email protected].)
Sharing of Joys and Concerns: Please let Rev. Stephanie know if you would like her to include a specific prayer request during the Sharing of Joys and Concerns during our Sunday service. Our Prayer Chaplains are also always available to pray with you after the Sunday service.
Prayer Room: Our Prayer Room is located upstairs (off the Rose Room) and is open whenever the church is open. Please feel free to turn on the candles, fountain, and music, and spend sacred time in this sacred space.
